I wish I could say I failed quite epicly; I deserved to. Sadly, ironically(?), I didn’t. Instead I got at least two but no more than three B’s. The final results will be in tomorrow. I should have a bright shiny A in my Embedded Systems class but since I have not been able to reach my professor I’m not going to hold my breath. My burn-out has reached critical levels; though I did manage to keep an A in Latin! Haha, how crazy is that? Luckily my inborn competitiveness played a role in making sure I put just enough effort into my work (maybe an hour a night?) to prove that anyone can learn a second language.
Putō igitur scrībō.
“I think therefore I write.” This seems as apt a title for this entry as any. I find myself at a loss of topics for a change. This is extremely unusual for I have had no shortage of inspiration of late with which to occupy my mind and yet, I find myself void of direction. Tamen, we shall have to see where this tangent leads us, shan’t we?
This is exactly what happens when I have to do Elsa’s homework… This is an old one, but a good one. Elsa was taking a speech course and had to give a speech about one of the events in her life and couldn’t think of a way to make it interesting so she asked me for some help. I think it came out pretty good, not sure if she was able to finish the story for all her laughing, but that’s not my fault now is it?
It’s been a while, but I think I have finally identified most all of the factors that play a role in any relationship from the smallest, least significant aquaintence to the greatest, deepest, most ever-lasting love. Originally in “The Ultimate Equation” I talked about two of them, appearance (α) and personality (ω). As a quick recap, no matter how fair or non-judgemental you think you are, you judge people based on their appearance and have preconceived notions of whether or not you are interested in them at all. Now, I don’t mean you’re going to hop into bed with the most beautiful person you find, but someone who does appeal to your aethetic senses will have a far easier time becoming a part of your life than someone who doesn’t. Likewise, personalityis a factor that changes for better or worse with respect to time. If you would like a more detailed approach about these, check out “The Ultimate Equation.”
It’ s been an interesting go ’round abouts here. I felt I should write something, man so much for being good at keeping this up!
Scott and I watched Hugo last night and we both found the movie really good. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I was surprised that it had a lot of negative reviews on IMDb about it. I am glad to see that at least Rotten Tomatoes has it right!
Happy Nerd / Geek Holiday! E.g. π Day!
Today is officially π-Day, in respect of the number that corresponds to the ratio of an Euclidean circle’s circumfrence to its diameter. Here at NMSU we celebrated the day with pizza-πs, fruit πs, and crème πs at a celebration that started at 1:59:26 on 3/14, the same time this is posted.
I hope nerds everywhere take time to celebrate the day by taking time to enjoy π of some kind! Remember, it is Albert Einstein’s birthday (born π-day, 1879) today, too!
I don’t like this one at all, but alas, what can you do? It’s my first attempt at story-booking a fight scene. The goal was to inspire the emotions of a viscous blood thirsty killer but I think this was lost. I’ll try again later. Constructive criticism is more than welcome and heavily desired!
This is just a first draft, so keep an eye out for a second go at it. I know I need to work on emotion, description, action, and surroundings. Not sure about other things though, so again, feel free to suggest.
A couple of days ago, Forbes published an article with five key leadership qualities displayed by none other than Captain James Tiberius Kirk! I must say this has to be one of the most epic and fun articles I have read in a while and that includes the stuff I write, hehe. I agree wholeheartedly with the article and have even practiced most of what he espoused in every leadership role I have had. It is because of this that I think everyone can appreciate the lessons from this quick read. Truly, Gene Roddenberry was a man who knew how to give valuable instruction in an entertaining way.
Is there a better way to learn? How many of us are faced with completely brand new things every day of our lives and have to learn completely new skill sets to encounter them? I honestly cannot remember the last time that I was blown away by something. Now, before I am accused of being cocky or pretentious, allow me to say that for the most part my knowledge is gained pretty incrementally and on those times that I venture into new realms, I am still able to apply techniques that I already know to solve the new problems before me. “It’s elementary” as Sherlock Holmes would say. What’s the secret? Let me tell you…
